CAFCC: Bendel Insurance set for Berkane test, Rivers United to face Etoile
Nigeria’s representatives at the CAF Confederation Cup have received confirmation of their opponents in the second qualifying round for a place in the group stage of the competition, with the ties set to take place in September/October.
Federation Cup champions Bendel Insurance came through a tough test against Algerian outfit ASO Chlef in the first qualifying round, emerging as winners of the tie following a penalty shootout. They will now face 2022 champions RS Berkane for a place in the group stage of the tournament.
Moroccan giants RS Berkane defeated NPFL outfit Kwara United on away goals to reach the group stage of the competition last season, and will fancy their chances against Bendel Insurance over two legs.
Having drawn a bye in the first round, Rivers United will enter into the competition in this round against Burkina Faso side Etoile Filante for a place in the group stage of the competition.
Rivers United, who reached the quarterfinals of the competition in 2022-23 before bowing out to Tanzanian outfit Young Africans SC, will hope to make it back-to-back appearances in the group stage of the competition. Their opponents defeated Senegalese side CS Ziguinchor on away goals to reach this stage of the competition.
The first legs will take place between 15th and 17th of September, with the return legs scheduled for 29th October to November 1st.
