CAFCC Qualifier: Bendel Insurance pip ASO Chlef in first leg
Imade Osarenkhoe opens account for Benin Arsenal in win
Bendel Insurance picked up an impressive 1-0 win over Algerian side ASO Chlef in their CAF Confederation Cup Qualifier first leg at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
After missing out on a place in the continent following the NPFL Super Six, Bendel Insurance managed to book their place in the CAF Confederation Cup by winning the Federation Cup.
The Benin Arsenal welcomed Chlef to a packed “Ogbe Stadium” for their first continental assignment since 2005.
Following a closely-contested opening period, the Nigerian side opened the scoring in the 41st minute through lanky striker Imade Osarenkhoe, who shot to prominence in the 2022-23 season. The striker fired home a fierce shot to open his account for the season and give his side the lead.
The home side held off their visitors throughout the second period, keeping a clean sheet on their return to continental football.
Bendel Insurance will travel to Algeria to take on ASO Chlef in the second leg next weekend hoping to complete the task against the Algerian side.
