Calvin Bassey nets winner in Fulham preseason win over Hoffenheim
Super Eagles defender delivers MOTM performance in first start
Calvin Bassey was the shining star for Fulham as they secured a 2-1 win over TSG Hoffenheim in their final preseason friendly match at Craven Cottage.
The Nigerian defender, who joined the Cottagers from Ajax, was handed his first start by manager Marco Silva.
Bassey was a solid presence at the back for Fulham against the German club, helping to prevent them from scoring in the opening 45 minutes of the encounter.
Seven minutes into the second half, the English side opened the scoring through another new signing, Raul Jimenez. Left-back Antonee Robinson sent a delicious low cross into the box, and the Mexican striker connected with the ball to score his first goal since joining the club.
Hoffenheim found an equaliser through Grischa Promel after only four minutes, with the German midfielder sending a header past the Fulham goalkeeper to draw his side level.
With 73 minutes on the clock, Fulham secured the win through a Bassey header from a corner, with the 23-year-old sending a near-post header into the back of the net.
Fulham will now continue their preparation for the new Premier League season, which commences next weekend.
