Calvin Bassey set to complete Fulham transfer

Super Eagles centre-back Calvin Bassey is undergoing his medicals ahead of a transfer to Fulham from Ajax, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

With Fulham in the need of defensive reinforcement, they have turned to Ajax for Nigerian star Bassey, who joined them last summer. The Cottagers first offered €15m for the defender which was rejected before a deal was struck for €21m between both sides.

Fulham chose Bassey over Southampton and Ghana star Mohammed Salisu, preferring the 23-year-old Nigeria international for his ability to play at centre-back and left-back.

Bassey decided to leave Ajax after new manager Maurice Steijn refused to give him any assurances over his future and told him it would be better if he left the club due to the financial package on offer.

Despite only joining Ajax last summer, Bassey has now completed a move to Fulham and will become the third Nigerian international to represent the side in recent seasons after Ola Aina and Ademola Lookman.

The defender, who started his career at Leicester City, will now return to play in the Premier League for the first time in his career.
