Cameroon’s Etta Eyong Sends Warning to Super Eagles Ahead of World Cup Playoffs

Cameroon youngster Etta Eyong has sent a strong message to the Super Eagles of Nigeria ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs taking place this week in Rabat, Morocco.

The Indomitable Lions are grouped alongside Nigeria, DR Congo, and Gabon, with only one team set to advance to the intercontinental playoffs for a chance to book a ticket to the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Cameroon will face DR Congo in one semifinal clash, while Nigeria will meet Gabon in the other, both scheduled for Thursday evening.

Speaking confidently about his team’s chances, Eyong declared that Cameroon no longer fear Nigeria and are ready to take on all challengers.

“For me, the most dangerous, Nigeria was before but I am no more afraid. With the confidence of the team, we can take the three teams,” Eyong said.

“Even though we have to play three matches against them to qualify, we are going to win the three games.”

The 22-year-old Villarreal forward also expressed his belief that the Indomitable Lions will secure qualification to the intercontinental playoffs.

“It is not like then when Nigeria was frightening me during those days, but I think we have the capacity and ability to win those games that are coming,” he added.

Eyong has been in outstanding form this season, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 12 league appearances for Villarreal.

If both Nigeria and Cameroon win their respective semifinals, the two West African rivals will meet in what promises to be a thrilling final for a place in the next round of the World Cup qualifying playoffs.
