Can Noni Madueke still play for Nigeria?
Born in England to parents of Igbo heritage, Chelsea star Noni Madueke is eligible to represent both the Three Lions and Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
Madueke has already played for England at the U-16, U-17, U-18, and U-21 levels, scoring seven goals in 20 appearances for the U-21s.
Despite his success with England’s youth teams, Madueke has yet to receive a senior call-up, meaning he remains eligible to play for Nigeria at full international level.
However, whether he would consider switching allegiance to the Super Eagles is uncertain and the chances very slim, particularly if his current form earns him a spot in the England squad.
With his stock rising at Chelsea following the hat-trick in Chelsea’s 6-2 thrashing of Wolves, Madueke’s international future remains an intriguing question.
While the some Nigeria Super Eagles fans continue to dream of a possible international switch, the next few months could be crucial in determining where the young winger’s international career will ultimately flourish with Nigeria or his country of birth England.
