Canada’s Gilles excited to face Nigeria at #FIFAWWC
Republic of Ireland head coach Vera Pauw not afraid of Super Falcons
Canada Women’s national team defender, Vanessa Gilles, is excited and looking forward to playing against the Super Falcons of Nigeria at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The 26-year-old defender while reacting to the draw which pitched her country, Canada, in the same group as Nigeria, Australia, the co-host, and the Republic of Ireland revealed her excitement.
Vanessa Gilles, 26, says she is anticipating the tournament.
“Group stage is finally set, us, Canada, drew Australia, Ireland, and Nigeria all three great teams,
“So, I am really happy about that and to top it off we get one of the hosts, so, really excited for this tournament to get started.”
The Republic of Ireland coach, Vera Pauw, also said she and her team will not be afraid of any team.
“That opening game [versus Australia], wow – it’s fantastic. There’s a huge Irish community in Australia and I think a lot of people over there will face a bit of a dilemma over who they support in that one,” Pauw told her country’s FA official website.
“It’s a bit of a shame that we’re drawn in the toughest teams in Pot 4 in Nigeria, but we won’t fear anyone. It’s a tough group but a very exciting one”, she said.
The FIFA Women’s World Cup will be co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia between Thursday, 20 Jul 2023 – Sunday, 20 Aug 2023.
