Carlos Alcaraz Fights Back to Win Monte Carlo Masters Title
Carlos Alcaraz came from a set down to beat Lorenzo Musetti and win the Monte Carlo Masters for the first time in his career.
The 21-year-old Spaniard showed great skill and determination on the clay court, defeating the Italian 3-6, 6-1, 6-0.
The match was close for the first set and a half, but Musetti, who was chasing the biggest win of his career, began to struggle with a leg injury and couldn’t keep up.
This victory gives Alcaraz his sixth ATP Masters 1000 title – his first since Indian Wells in 2023 – and his 18th career title overall.
It also gives him a big confidence boost ahead of his French Open title defence in May.
“It’s been a really difficult week with lots of tough moments,” said Alcaraz.
“I’m proud of how I’ve handled everything, both on and off the court. All the hard work has paid off and I’m really happy.”
Slow Start, Strong Finish
Alcaraz started the match poorly, with many errors – especially from his forehand. Musetti took full advantage, winning four games in a row and finishing the first set with a clever drop-shot winner from behind the baseline.
Alcaraz hit 14 unforced errors in the first set, 11 from the forehand, but turned things around in the second. A missed forehand from Musetti gave Alcaraz the break, and from there he grew stronger.
He showed more confidence, moved around the court better, and even asked the crowd for support after hitting a brilliant backhand winner.
Though Musetti had five break points as Alcaraz served for the second set, the Spaniard saved them all and levelled the match after a tough eight-minute game.
