Carlos Alcaraz Wins First Vienna Open Title After Dominant Display Against De Minaur
Carlos Alcaraz has added another trophy to his growing collection after defeating Alex de Minaur 6-1, 6-4 to win the Vienna Open for the first time.
The Spaniard was in complete control for much of Sunday’s final, producing the kind of tennis that has made him one of the most difficult players to beat on the ATP Tour.
Alcaraz wasted no time taking charge, breaking de Minaur’s serve in the opening game before racing into a 3-0 lead. The Australian struggled to deal with his opponent’s power and variety, and although he eventually got on the scoreboard, Alcaraz remained firmly in control.
The first set lasted just 36 minutes, with the Spaniard wrapping it up 6-1 after breaking de Minaur three times.
The second set was a different contest. De Minaur raised his level and made Alcaraz work much harder for his points, managing to stay within touching distance as the match progressed.
But when the opportunity came to finish the job, Alcaraz delivered. He produced a superb cross-court forehand to secure the decisive point and complete a 6-4 second-set victory.
The win gives Alcaraz his first Vienna title and his 28th career trophy. It is also his fourth title of the 2026 season, further adding to an impressive year for the Spanish star.
Perhaps just as impressive was the manner of his triumph. Alcaraz went through the entire tournament without dropping a single set, underlining the level of tennis he brought to Vienna.
It was also his 58th career victory against a top-10 opponent, another milestone that reflects his consistency against the biggest names in the sport.
For de Minaur, reaching the final was a positive achievement, but he ran into an opponent who was simply too good on the day.
Alcaraz leaves Vienna with the trophy and plenty of confidence as he looks towards the final stretch of the season.
