Cavan Sullivan has made history by becoming the youngest player ever in Major League Soccer (MLS) at just 14 years and 293 days old, surpassing Freddy Adu’s record.
Sullivan debuted for the Philadelphia Union, marking a significant milestone in MLS and across all major North American sports leagues.
The game was streamed on Apple’s platform, with additional camera and sound crews capturing this landmark moment.
Reflecting on his debut, Sullivan said, “It’s a dream come true to play at this level. I’ve worked hard and had a lot of support from my family and coaches. I’m excited to keep growing and contributing to the team.”
Philadelphia Union’s General Manager, Ernst Tanner, praised Sullivan’s performance, stating, “Cavan is an exceptional talent with a bright future ahead. His debut at a young age is a testament to his hard work and our academy’s commitment to developing young players.”
Sullivan’s entry into professional soccer is the latest chapter in his family’s rich soccer history. His father, Brendan, and mother, Heike, both played soccer at high levels, while his older brother Quinn plays for the Union’s first team.
