Cavani, Fernandes star as Manchester United rip AS Roma to shreds
Red Devils first team to score 6 in an European semifinal
Manchester United showed a ruthless edge as they absolutely hammered AS Roma 6-2 at Old Trafford in their UEFA Europa League semifinal first leg to all but book their place in the final at the expense of their Italian opponents.
Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring for the home side before Lorenzo Pellegrini equalised for the visitors. Edin Dzeko then scored to make it 2-1 to AS Roma going into the halftime break. In the second half, Manchester United stepped up their game, with Edinson Cavani scoring a brace before further goals from Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba and Mason Greenwood ensured that the home side picked up a commanding 6-2 win over their opponents going into next week’s second leg at the Stadio Olimpico.
Manchester United became the first team to score 6 goals in a single European semifinal, and have one foot in the final already. The Europa League represents the last feasible chance for them to win silverware this season.
