Chalobah’s Pidgin Post Goes Viral After Chelsea’s Dramatic Win Over West Ham
Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has caught the attention of fans online after using Nigerian Pidgin English following his side’s dramatic 3–2 Premier League win over West Ham United at Stamford Bridge.
The England international took to social media after the match, sharing a photo from stoppage time that showed him jumping for an aerial ball inside Chelsea’s penalty area alongside West Ham players and goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.
Chalobah captioned the image in Pidgin English, writing: “Areola no bi today you wan turn to Benfica goalkeeper.” The message amused many fans, especially Nigerians, and quickly went viral.
The post referred to a tense late moment in the game as West Ham searched for an equaliser. It also drew comparisons to a recent incident involving a Benfica goalkeeper who scored a late header in a separate match.
Chalobah, who played the full 90 minutes in central defence, was part of a Chelsea side that produced a remarkable second-half comeback. The Blues went into the break trailing 2–0 but responded strongly after half-time.
João Pedro pulled one back in the 57th minute before Marc Cucurella equalised in the 70th minute. Chelsea then completed the turnaround in stoppage time when Enzo Fernández scored the winning goal.
West Ham had dominated the first half, but changes made by Chelsea after the interval shifted the momentum of the match. The visitors’ night ended on a sour note when defender Jean-Clair Todibo was sent off late in the game.
Chalobah was one of Chelsea’s standout performers at the back, helping the team survive late pressure, including a final corner that was cleared in the last action of the match.
