Champions League: Chukwueze first AC Milan goal not enough, Sanusi falls with Porto
Samuel Chukwueze scored his first AC Milan goal in the UEFA Champions League clash vs Dortmund but it was not enough to save them from defeat same evening Zaidu Sanusi fell with FC Porto vs Barcelona.
In the AC Milan vs Borussia Dortmund match, Nigerian winger, Samuel Chukwueze was named in the starting XI after a cool display in the league win over Fiorentina.
Early in the match, AC Milan were gifted a penalty kick but Olivier Giroud missed the chance to give the hosts the lead in the sixth minute.
Visiting Borussia Dortmund will learn from his miss and score the opener when awarded a penalty kick four minutes later.
Marco Reus expertly dispatched his kick to put the German side ahead.
AC Milan did press forward in search of an equalizer to rescue their season and found one through a first-time goalscorer in the clubs colour, Samuel Chukwueze.
The 24-year old received a pass in the box, moved past two Dortmund defenders before hitting the target for his first goal since joining the Rossoneri in the summer.
That goal rescued a first half draw but proved insufficcient as the Germans flourished at the San Siro in the second half.
Goals from Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and substitute Karim Adeyemi in the second half sealed a 1-3 win for Borussia Dortmund.
That result confirms the visitors will play in the knockout round while Milan who are bottom of the group walk a tight rope with a game to go.
In Spain, Nigerian leftback Zaidu Sanusi was in action for ninety minutes as FC Barcelona defeated his FC Porto team on Tuesday night.
Pepe Acquino gave Sanusi’s FC Porto the lead on the half hour mark.
Barcelona fought-back almost immediately through Joao Cancelo two minutes later.
Portugal midfielder, Joao Felix scored the match-winner for Barcelona in the 52nd minute of the match.
In other matches involving teams with Nigerian players, Alhassan Yusuf and Chidera Ejuke were in action as Royal Antwerp fell to a 1-0 defeat at Shakhtar Donestk.
While Yusuf was named in the starting XI, Ejuke was a second half substitute in place of Gyrano Kerk.
Also, Peter Olayinka was an unused substitute in Red Star Belgrade’s 2-0 loss to Young Boys.
