CHAN Qualifiers: Nigeria names 18 NPFL stars to face Ghana
Stand-in Head Coach Daniel Ogunmodede has named 18 Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) stars in the Super Eagles B squad for the upcoming CHAN qualifiers against Ghana’s Black Galaxies.
The squad includes experienced midfielder Rabiu Ali, wing-back Sadiq Ishmael, centre-back Stephen Manyo, midfielders Musa Zayyad and Jide Fatokun, and forwards Anas Yusuf and Sikiru Alimi. These players lead the 18-man roster for the first leg of the African Nations Championship qualifying match against Ghana, set for Sunday in Accra.
Other notable selections include goalkeeper Henry Ozoemena, defender Victor Collins, and forward Abubakar Adamu. Nigeria is looking to win this two-leg fixture, as Ghana’s Black Galaxies have previously blocked Nigeria’s qualification for the championship in 2009 and 2023.
The first leg will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, with kick-off at 4pm local time (5pm in Nigeria). Meanwhile, both nations’ U17 women’s teams will compete for the inaugural WAFU B U17 Cup at the Ghana Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
The second leg will be held at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Saturday, 28th December. The winner on aggregate will secure a place in the 8th African Nations Championship, which will take place in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda from 1st to 28th February 2025.
