Chelle: Nigeria Showed True Character in Win Over Algeria

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has praised his team after their 2-0 victory over Algeria in the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 quarter-finals.
Speaking after the match in Marrakech, Chelle said Nigeria’s performance reflected the team’s growing confidence and determination. “I am very proud of the players. They showed commitment, intensity and teamwork throughout the game,” he said.
Chelle highlighted how Victor Osimhen opened the scoring before setting up Akor Adams to seal the win. “The goals came from our collective effort. Everyone played their part, and that is what makes this team strong,” he added.
The coach also addressed the tensions that followed the match. “Football is emotional, especially in knockout games. What matters is that we stay focused and keep our composure. The players understood that after the final whistle,” Chelle said.
Looking ahead to the semi-final against host nation Morocco, Chelle promised a determined and attack-minded approach. “Morocco will be a tough opponent with their fans behind them. But we believe in ourselves and in the way we want to play. Our aim is to reach the final,” he stated.
Chelle concluded by praising the team’s attacking form in the tournament. “We have scored goals from different players, showing our balance and unpredictability. This is exactly how we want to play as we move forward,” he said.
The Super Eagles will face Morocco in the AFCON 2025 semi-final at Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah on Wednesday, with kick-off at 9:00 PM WAT.
