Chelle Set To Make Tactical Change As Super Eagles Face Madagascar

Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle could make a tactical change when the Super Eagles begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign against Madagascar on Friday in Uyo.

With Victor Osimhen ruled out of the first two qualifiers because of a muscle injury, Chelle may move away from his usual attacking setup and use a 4-4-2 diamond formation.

Taiwo Awoniyi has joined the squad as Osimhen’s replacement and could start alongside Akor Adams in attack.

Stanley Nwabali is expected to return in goal, with Ola Aina, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey and Bruno Onyemaechi forming the back four.

In midfield, Wilfred Ndidi and Frank Onyeka could provide the defensive cover, while Alex Iwobi is expected to play in a more advanced central role and provide creativity.

Ademola Lookman could operate alongside the front two, using his pace and ability to carry the ball to create problems for the Madagascar defence.

The final line-up will be confirmed before kick-off at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.

Nigeria will face Madagascar on Friday, September 25, with kick-off scheduled for 5pm Nigerian time.
