Chelsea Beat Burnley to Take Second Place on EPL Standing

Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernández scored to give Chelsea a comfortable 2–0 win at Burnley, lifting them to second place in the Premier League.
Neto opened the scoring by heading in Jamie Gittens’ cross at the back post. Fernández made it 2–0 late in the match after a quick counter-attack involving Neto and substitute Marc Guiu.
Chelsea were never at full speed and still managed to rest Moisés Caicedo, with big games against Barcelona and Arsenal coming up.
Burnley started well, with Jaidon Anthony having two early shots blocked and Loum Tchaouna forcing Robert Sánchez into a save from the edge of the box. Chelsea’s first chance came when Trevoh Chalobah hit a weak long-range effort at keeper Martin Dúbravka.
Once Neto scored, Chelsea gradually took control. Captain Reece James was taken off at half-time, but the team continued to grow stronger. Neto hit the post shortly after the break, while substitute Malo Gusto and others — João Pedro, Gittens, Fernández and Marc Cucurella — all had shots saved or blocked.
Chelsea saw out the second half calmly, keeping the ball and giving Burnley very few chances. Burnley’s best opportunity came when Zian Flemming fired over, and later substitutes Lyle Foster and Armando Broja could not make an impact.
Guiu then set up Fernández for Chelsea’s second goal with a simple cutback.
Burnley stay 17th and could fall into the relegation zone later in the day. Chelsea move up to second, although they have played one more match than other teams around them.
Burnley: Lack of attacking quality?
Burnley may end the weekend in the bottom three. They have shown they can beat other struggling teams, but their overall quality — especially in attack — remains a concern. Their bright start faded quickly, and they failed to make their early chances count. Poor finishing and misplaced crosses cost them again.
Chelsea: Cucurella shines
Marc Cucurella was Chelsea’s standout player. His forward runs caused Burnley problems, including the clever movement that led to Neto’s opener. The left-back repeatedly found himself in central attacking positions and linked play well throughout the match.
