Chelsea Defender Tosin Adarabioyo Says Nigerian Food Made Him Stronger

Chelsea centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo has shared how growing up with Nigerian food helped make him stronger as a footballer.

The 27-year-old defender joined Chelsea from Fulham on a free transfer at the start of the season after his contract at Craven Cottage ended.

Since joining the Blues, Tosin has become a key player under manager Enzo Maresca. He has started 13 Premier League matches and featured in nine UEFA Conference League games, scoring four goals and providing one assist.

Tosin, who was born in England to Nigerian parents, said that his upbringing was strongly influenced by Nigerian culture – especially when it came to food.

“We’re very much a Nigerian family. It was a Nigerian upbringing – the food, the traditions, everything. It’s a bit different from what you’d expect in England,” Tosin said in an interview with Chelsea’s official website.
“The food is tougher – things like pounded yam. It’s the kind of food that makes you strong.”

The former Manchester City defender remains proud of his Nigerian roots and often shares parts of his culture on social media. Although he has played for England at youth level, he is yet to feature for the senior national team.

Many fans and football experts believe Tosin could still choose to represent Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the future, but he has not made a final decision.
