Chelsea eye alternative striker after withdrawing from Victor Osimhen race

Chelsea appear to have found a solution to their centre-forward problems, shifting their focus from Napoli’s Victor Osimhen to RB Leipzig’s Lois Openda.

The Blues were heavily linked with Osimhen, but new manager Enzo Maresca and the Chelsea board decided against pursuing the Napoli star due to his high cost. Instead, they have turned their attention to Openda, who has emerged as a leading candidate for their attacking revamp this summer.

According to TEAMTALK, Chelsea are prepared to open negotiations with Leipzig for Openda, with a potential deal valued at around €70 million.

Openda, 24, had a standout season with RB Leipzig, scoring 28 goals in all competitions. His contributions were significant in a front-two partnership with Benjamin Sesko, highlighting his capability as a prolific striker.

In addition to Openda, Chelsea remain in discussions with Aston Villa regarding Jhon Duran. The Stamford Bridge club is eager to secure their new signings promptly to ensure a smooth transition into pre-season preparations.

Chelsea’s pursuit of Openda underscores their strategic approach to strengthening their attack, aiming to find the right fit both financially and in terms of on-field performance.
