Chelsea were forced to settle for a 0–0 draw away at Bournemouth in a quiet Premier League match that produced few clear chances. The game was overshadowed by an injury to striker Liam Delap, who appeared to dislocate his shoulder after a tussle with Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi while defending a corner. Delap was replaced by teenager Marc Guiu, and Senesi later went off injured as well.
Both teams struggled in attack, even with Cole Palmer returning to Chelsea’s starting line-up for the first time since September. Palmer, who has been recovering from injuries, played 58 minutes before being substituted.
Bournemouth thought they had taken an early lead when Antoine Semenyo scored from close range, but the goal was ruled out for offside in the build-up. The home side looked sharper in the first half, with Semenyo causing problems and testing the Chelsea goalkeeper with a long-range shot.
Chelsea also had a few moments before the break. Marcus Tavernier and Alex Jimenez both went close, and Marc Cucurella headed just over the bar. Delap had an effort blocked before he was forced off with his injury.
After half-time, Chelsea enjoyed more possession and came closest when Alejandro Garnacho headed against the post. Most of their shots, however, came from distance and did not trouble the Bournemouth defence.
Both managers made attacking changes in search of a winner, but neither side found a breakthrough. Bournemouth’s best chance of the second half came from another Semenyo run and shot, which was saved well by Robert Sanchez.
In the end, Bournemouth held firm and earned a point, even though their winless run now stretches to six games. Chelsea, meanwhile, are without a win in three league matches, putting a pause on any hopes of pushing into the title race.
