Chelsea legend warns club against signing Victor Osimhen

Former Chelsea player Emmanuel Petit has issued a stern warning to his former club, advising against potential summer signings of Victor Osimhen and Victor Gyokeres.

In a statement to Genting Casino, the Chelsea legend emphasised the need for focus on nurturing their current squad members rather than pursuing reinforcements.

Petit expressed confidence in the existing talent within Chelsea’s ranks but highlighted the lack of cohesion and confidence among players as a key issue affecting their performance.

He singled out Nicolas Jackson as a player with untapped potential, urging Chelsea to provide support and opportunities for players like him to flourish.

“I don’t think Chelsea need Gyokeres or Osimhen. With Chelsea, there are so many players who are not playing to their level and can do so much more,” Petit remarked, emphasising the need for improvement from within the squad.

The former midfielder pointed to players like Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez who he believes have the potential to contribute more to the team’s success once they find their form and confidence.

Petit also directed criticism towards Chelsea owner Todd Boehly, accusing him of mismanagement and questionable transfer decisions

. He expressed dismay over the potential departure of Conor Gallagher, labeling him as one of the team’s most important players and a rare leader within the squad.

“If anything summed up the board of Chelsea, it is this,” Petit lamented, referring to Gallagher’s contract situation. “They are running the club into the ground. Boehly has signed so many players that he may have to get rid of Gallagher, one of their most important players.”

The former Chelsea player’s remarks reflect growing concerns among supporters regarding the club’s direction under Boehly’s leadership, highlighting the need for a more sustainable and strategic approach to squad management and transfer dealings.
