Chelsea Overcome Freezing Conditions to Beat Astana 3-1 in Conference League, Chinedu Starts for Astana
Chelsea secured their fifth straight win in the UEFA Conference League with a 3-1 victory over Astana, despite battling freezing-cold temperatures in Kazakhstan. Nigerian striker Geoffrey Chinedu started for Astana but couldn’t find the net as Chelsea dominated the match.
Chinedu played 72 minutes, but it was Astana’s captain, Marin Tomasov, who scored their only goal after Chelsea had built a strong 3-0 lead.
The match took place in freezing conditions, with temperatures dropping to -10°C, but Chelsea’s goals from Marc Guiu, Renato Veiga, and an own goal by Aleksandr Marochkin were enough to secure another win. Chelsea’s young team has now won all five of their Conference League matches this season, scoring 21 goals and conceding just four.
Chelsea’s Perfect Record
With this win, Chelsea remains at the top of the Conference League table with 15 points from 5 games, maintaining a perfect record.
Match Highlights
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca picked a young side, including four teenagers, marking the first time Chelsea has fielded such a youthful team in a major European competition.
In the first half, Marc Guiu, 18, scored the opening goal in the 14th minute. Just minutes later, an own goal by Astana’s Aleksandr Marochkin made it 2-0 for Chelsea. Renato Veiga then added a third goal with a header in the 39th minute. Despite Chelsea’s strong play, Astana pulled one back when Marin Tomasov scored a great goal just before halftime.
In the second half, both Tyrique George and Pedro came close to scoring, but Astana’s goalkeeper, Mukhammedzhan Seisen, kept them out with some strong saves.
Chelsea finished the match 3-1 and will look to maintain their perfect record in their final game before moving on to the knockout stages of the tournament.
