Chelsea players Ann-Katrin Berger and Jess Carter announce engagement
Chelsea’s female team players, Ann-Katrin Berger and Jess Carter have announced their engagement, sharing the news on social media.
The pair, who recently played key roles in securing the Women’s Super League (WSL) title for Chelsea, took to social media on Sunday evening to confirm their engagement.
The announcement comes shortly after the departure of Chelsea manager Emma Hayes, who has left to take on the role of managing the US women’s national team.
Berger and Carter posted a heartfelt selfie on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, “7 years down, forever to go,” celebrating their seven-year relationship.

Their love story began in 2016 when they both played for Birmingham City. They reunited at Chelsea three years later, where their relationship blossomed.
The journey has not been without challenges. Ann-Katrin Berger, the German goalkeeper, has battled thyroid cancer twice. Despite the tough fight, she made a remarkable comeback to the field just one month after announcing the return of her illness in 2022. Carter has been a steadfast supporter throughout Berger’s health battles, further strengthening their bond.
Their engagement has been met with joy and congratulations from fans and fellow players. In women’s football, player relationships are quite common. Other notable couples include Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema and Beth Mead, and Chelsea’s Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis, who currently plays for West Ham.
