19-year old Chelsea Football club star Lesley Ugochukwu recently took a break from his footballing engagements to visit his family in Nigeria.
SportsRation came across a photo Lesley Ugochukwu shared on social media, with his family in Owerri the capital of Imo State, Nigeria, giving fans a glimpse into his personal life and Nigerian connection.
Ugochukwu made headlines last summer when he made the move to Chelsea from Stade Rennais in the French Ligue 1. However, his playing time has been limited, with just ten league appearances for the London club so far.
The young midfielder’s season was further hampered by a hamstring injury suffered during a game against Wolverhampton Wanderers in December 2023, sidelining him for six weeks.
Born in France, Ugochukwu has represented his country of birth at the U-19 and U-21 levels but has yet to receive a call-up to the senior national team thus making him eligible to play for Nigeria, thanks to his Nigerian roots.
Ugochukwu’s uncle is the former Super Eagles and Seattle Sounders defender, Onyekachi Apam, who also had a successful stint at Stade Rennais. With strong ties to Nigeria, Ugochukwu’s visit to his family in Owerri, Delta State, highlights his connection to his heritage.
