Chidera Ejuke earns ‘Okocha-like’ rating after top performance in Belguim
Nigerian winger Chidera Ejuke has earned a Jay Jay Okocha-like rating after his dazzling performance in Royal Antwerp’s commanding 3-0 victory over St Truiden on Sunday.
Ejuke’s stellar display saw him score a goal and provide an assist, earning him the man-of-the-match accolade as the Belgian champions secured their second consecutive league triumph.
According to OptaJohan on Twitter, the 26-year-old completed an impressive 50 dribbles this season, surpassing any other Royal Antwerp player in a single campaign since the club’s return to the top-flight in 2017-18.
“Chidera Ejuke (has) completed 50 dribbles this @ProLeagueBE campaign, more than any other @official_rafc player over a single Jupiler Pro League season since the club’s return to the top-flight in 2017-18. Artistry,” tweeted the stats account.
Ejuke’s dynamic runs and skillful maneuvers proved too much for St Truiden to handle, as he created three scoring opportunities, made two key passes, and successfully completed all his attempted dribbles.
Moreover, the winger displayed defensive prowess by winning three interceptions and making six recoveries during the match.
Ejuke’s resurgence comes after initially facing challenges to make an impact following his stint at Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin before joining Royal Antwerp last summer.
However, he has now contributed three goals and three assists in his last 12 league starts, playing a crucial role in Antwerp’s climb to fourth place in the standings.
His outstanding performance on Sunday reaffirms Ejuke’s importance to Antwerp’s title defense this season, highlighting his potential to be a key player for the team.
