Chidera Ejuke on the brink of big European move
Eight-cap Super Eagles player, Chidera Ejuke is reportedly on the brink of signing with LaLiga giants Sevilla. The 26-year-old is set to join Sevilla as a free agent after leaving Royal Antwerp at the end of the 2023/24 season.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Ejuke has verbally agreed to a contract with Sevilla. The final steps before the move becomes official include medical fitness tests and final signatures, which are scheduled for next week.
Ejuke’s football journey began with Gombe United in Nigeria in 2016. He moved to Europe in 2017 to join Valerenga in Norway. His career continued with a transfer to Heerenveen in the Netherlands, followed by a move to CSKA Moscow.
During his time with CSKA, he struggled to secure regular playing time and was loaned to Hertha BSC in Germany for the 2022/23 season.
After his loan spell, Ejuke’s contract with CSKA was terminated, allowing him to join Royal Antwerp. In Belgium, he managed to score three goals and provide four assists in the Jupiler Pro League.
Although Ejuke has drawn comparisons to Nigerian football legend Jay Jay Okocha, he has yet to make a similar impact on the Super Eagles. He has made eight appearances for the national team, featuring in the qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and playing in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. However, he has not been called up since then.
Ejuke’s move to Sevilla represents a significant step in his career, as he joins the seven-time Europa League winners and aims to make his mark in LaLiga.
