Chippa United Coach Confirms Fallout with Super Eagles Goalkeeper Nwabali

Chippa United coach Luc Eymael has confirmed that Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has fallen out with the club.
Nwabali joined Chippa United in 2022 from Katsina United and quickly established himself as a reliable goalkeeper. His strong performances earned him the captain’s armband at the club and a call-up to the Super Eagles, where he became a regular under former coach José Peseiro during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, played in 2024.
His impressive form for both club and country has seen him linked with several top teams in South Africa and abroad, although no move has materialised. Despite the rumours, Nwabali has remained professional and never forced an exit.
However, concerns grew when he was left out of Chippa United’s squad in their 2-1 defeat to Polokwane on Sunday, with no reports of an injury.
When asked about the situation, coach Eymael admitted there were unresolved issues with the Nigerian goalkeeper.
“We have to deal with some internal issues. You saw that one important player [Nwabali] was not there today. It’s a problem we have to solve,” Eymael said.
“I cannot talk much about it in the media. It’s something we must settle internally. It’s sad, but these things sometimes happen in football. The positive side is that it gives other players a chance. What matters is that everyone wants to play for Chippa United and work in the same direction.”
Nwabali remains a key figure for the Super Eagles, but his future at Chippa United now looks uncertain as the club tries to resolve the situation.
