Christantus Uche Shines Bright as Getafe Thrash Real Valladolid 4-0
Nigerian midfielder Christantus Uche stole the spotlight with a brilliant all-round display as Getafe cruised to a 4-0 win over Real Valladolid in La Liga on Sunday.
The 21-year-old was involved in three of the goals, providing two assists and playing a key role in the third, as Getafe completely dominated the first half.
Uche, who is enjoying a superb debut season in Spain’s top flight, now has three goals and five assists in 28 league games. Once again, he showed why he’s one of the most exciting young midfielders to watch in Europe.
Right from the start, Uche made his presence felt. Just seconds into the game, he headed a smart assist to Mauro Arambarri, who scored the opener before many fans had even settled into their seats.
In the 19th minute, he added another assist. Surrounded by two defenders, Uche spotted Ramon Terrats making a run and played a perfectly timed pass for him to score the second goal.
Uche wasn’t done. Before half-time, he held off pressure and backheeled the ball cleverly to Juan Bernat, who crossed for Terrats to get his second of the match.
The Owerri-born midfielder was taken off in the 62nd minute with the job done. Getafe added a fourth goal through Domingos Duarte in the 80th minute, sealing a comfortable win.
Despite not finishing the game, Uche earned an 8.0 rating from SofaScore, making him the third-best performer behind Terrats (9.0) and Duarte (8.1).
His numbers were impressive: two assists, two big chances created, two key passes, three tackles won, six duels won, and even two shots — one blocked and the other wide.
Uche was named in Nigeria’s provisional squad for the March World Cup qualifiers but missed the final cut. However, performances like this will surely bring him closer to a Super Eagles call-up.
Getafe host Las Palmas next, and all eyes will once again be on Christantus Uche.
