Chukwuemeka Shines for Dortmund in Win Over Mönchengladbach
Borussia Dortmund manager Nico Kovac has praised Carney Chukwuemeka after the midfielder played a key role in their 3-2 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Sunday.
Chukwuemeka was back in action after missing Dortmund’s midweek Champions League game against Barcelona due to injury.
He quickly made an impact, playing an important part in all three of Dortmund’s goals. He showed his ability to win the ball and create chances for his teammates.
“He was the game changer,” said Kovac in his post-match interview, as shared on the club’s official website.
“Carney is brilliant with the ball. He turns quickly and goes straight at the opponent. When you score the first and second goals at Dortmund, with our amazing fans, you know what that means,” he added.
The Chelsea loanee won nine of his first ten duels and finished the match with a 76% success rate in challenges, showing how strong he was in midfield.
Since joining on loan, Chukwuemeka has played seven Bundesliga games, scored once, and impressed with his energy and skill.
His strong performance has also drawn the attention of Nigeria’s national team coach Eric Chelle, who is looking to strengthen his squad ahead of the Unity Cup and the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Although Chukwuemeka has played for England’s youth teams, he is still eligible to represent Nigeria as he has not yet played a competitive match for the senior England team.
