Chukwueze denied winning goal as AC Milan share spoils against Sassuolo
In a dramatic Serie A showdown, Samuel Chukwueze experienced a mix of fortune and frustration as AC Milan battled Sassuolo to a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Stadio Mapei – Citta del Tricolore.
Returning to the starting lineup for Milan after a bench role in their Europa League defeat to AS Roma, Chukwueze found himself in the thick of the action. However, Sassuolo took an early lead, with Andrea Pinamonti and Armand Laurienté netting within the opening ten minutes.
Despite Sassuolo’s early dominance, Milan fought back, with Portuguese forward Rafael Leão reducing the deficit in the 20th minute. However, Sassuolo extended their lead once more early in the second half through Laurienté’s second goal of the match.
Undeterred, Milan mounted a comeback, with Luka Jović’s strike making it 3-2 in the 60th minute. Just moments later, Chukwueze appeared to have scored the equalizer, only for VAR to rule it out for offside, denying the Nigerian forward his second Serie A goal of the season.
Subsequently replaced by Christian Pulisic, Chukwueze contributed significantly during his time on the pitch, registering 36 touches, completing 76% of his passes, making a key pass, and attempting three shots.
While Chukwueze has only found the back of the net once in Serie A this season, he showcased his scoring prowess in the UEFA Champions League, scoring two goals during Milan’s campaign in the group stages. His solitary Serie A goal came in Milan’s 3-1 victory against Verona in March.
Despite the disappointment of not being able to secure the winning goal, Chukwueze’s contributions highlight his importance to Milan’s attacking prowess as they continue their Serie A campaign.
