Chukwueze dreams 2023 AFCON title win with Nigeria
Super Eagles of Nigeria forward Samuel Chukwueze has expressed his ambition to return to AC Milan as champion of the 2023 AFCON .
Chukwueze and his Super Eagles teammates are set to face Cameroon in the round of 16 in Côte d’Ivoire, having qualified from the group stage, following two wins and a draw.
Chukwueze, who featured in all three group games, emphasized his desire to make his country proud and ensure his time away from Milan results in a trophy.
Reflecting on the upcoming clash with Cameroon, he said, “I can’t leave Milan to come here and not win a trophy, I really need it. I want to make my country proud, and I don’t want to waste my club’s time for nothing. I have to fight for my position and win.”
The last encounter between the Eagles and Cameroon in the AFCON was in the 2019 tournament’s round of 16, where the Eagles emerged victorious with a 3-2 win. Odion Ighalo scored two goals, and Alex Iwobi contributed with a goal.
Cameroon will be seeking their first AFCON win against the Eagles since the 2000 edition, where they clinched victory in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw in regular time.
