Chukwueze scores as Villarreal progress in Copa Del Rey
Yellow Submarines make it five wins on the spin
Samuel Chukwueze was on the scoresheet for Villarreal as they came from behind to trounce FC Cartagena 5-1 in their Copa Del Rey Round of 32 clash. The winger has now scored in consecutive games for the Yellow Submarine, having also scored in their win over Valencia at the weekend.
Lower-league outfit Cartagena looked like they intended to pull off an upset as they went in front in the 39th minute following a firm header by Pablo Vazquez following a corner.
Villarreal went into the break behind and wasted no time to restore parity once the second half started. Alex Baena was on the end of a low cross and prodded his effort into the back of the net in the 49th minute.
Villarreal took the lead for the first time in the game as Arnaut Danjuma fired home from close range in the 55th minute. The Yellow Submarines added a third through Jose Luis Morales, who scored the rebound after his initial penalty was saved in the 60th minute.
Chukwueze was introduced off the bench in the 68th minute and added his name to the scoresheet in the 85th minute. The winger was left unattended as he carried out a counter from inside his half before calmly slotting his effort under the onrushing goalkeeper.
Villarreal added a fifth in stunning style in the 90th minute as Etienne Capoue volleyed an effort from just inside the box into the bottom corner of the net.
The Yellow Submarines have now defeated FC Cartagena to reach the last 16 of the Copa Del Rey in Spain. They have now picked up five wins from their last five games in all competitions.
