Club manager reveals the only reason Rangers will let Cyriel Dessers go this summer

Rangers coach Philippe Clement has made it clear that the club will only consider selling Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers if they receive a substantial transfer fee.

Dessers, who has been in impressive form recently, has scored five goals in his last four games for Rangers, including a brace in their 4-0 victory over Ross County in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday. His recent performances have quelled some of the speculation surrounding his future at the club.

Before the start of the season, the 29-year-old Nigerian was heavily linked with moves to Greek side PAOK and Serie A club Cagliari. However, those transfers failed to materialize, and Dessers ultimately decided to stay at Rangers despite facing criticism from some fans.

In light of his recent resurgence, Dessers has reaffirmed his commitment to the club, and Rangers have expressed their reluctance to let him go unless a lucrative offer comes in. Coach Philippe Clement emphasised the club’s position, stating that they would only consider a transfer if it allowed them to strengthen the squad in multiple areas.

“We have talked to the board about whether we would let him go if a bid comes in. But we can only let a player leave if, for that amount, we can get a better player in that position and one in another position. Otherwise, you work backwards, and that is not the idea,” Clement explained.

“So clearly, there wasn’t a bid that was enough to let Dessers go. He is also someone that loves Rangers. He loves the shirt and he wants to die for the shirt.

“In the good moments and in the difficult moments, he is one of the guys that was fighting hard for the team.

“I think he deserves a lot of praise for the stick he got when he first came here. Maybe in moments he wasn’t good enough, and he knew that he was missing things. But with what he has been doing in the last couple of months, he’s just a really good striker and a really good player.”

Despite facing criticism from Rangers fans earlier in his tenure, Dessers’ recent performances have silenced many of his detractors. If he continues his current form and helps lead Rangers to the Premiership title, he could quickly become a fan favorite.
