Club World Cup Star Cole Palmer Gets Hero’s Welcome in St. Kitts

Cole Palmer, the young football star who plays for Chelsea and England, received a hero’s welcome when he arrived in St. Kitts — the Caribbean island where his grandfather, Sterry Palmer, was born.
Palmer, 23, came to the island after a great season, including winning the FIFA Club World Cup Golden Ball, an award for the tournament’s best player. Many now believe he’s in the running for the Ballon d’Or, one of football’s highest honors.
He landed in St. Kitts on Monday night and was warmly welcomed with traditional Masquerade dancers and greetings from top government leaders.
Among the officials who greeted him were Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Geoffrey Hanley and Minister of Tourism Marsha T. Henderson. Palmer’s visit meant a lot to the people of St. Kitts, who are proud of his success and his connection to their island.
Palmer’s Reaction
Palmer said he felt emotional arriving in St. Kitts after such a big win with Chelsea.
“Landing in St. Kitts after winning the Club World Cup felt really special. It’s where my grandad’s love for football started,” he said. “The island is beautiful and peaceful. I’m excited to explore the mountains, rainforest, sea—and of course, try the food.”
Prime Minister’s Message
Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew also shared how proud the country is of Palmer. He said Palmer’s visit shows young people in St. Kitts and Nevis that success is possible, no matter where you come from.
“Cole Palmer’s visit is a strong reminder of the pride and power of our people around the world,” the Prime Minister said. “His example will inspire the next generation and help grow sports in our country.”
Palmer’s visit wasn’t just a personal journey—it was a moment of pride for the whole island
