Coach Madugu Vows to Fix Super Falcons’ Goalscoring Problems Ahead of Zambia Clash

Super Falcons head coach, Justin Madugu, has shared his plans to help the Nigerian women’s team score more goals at the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after their struggles in the group stage.
Nigeria started the tournament with a 3-1 win over Tunisia and followed it with a late 1-0 victory against Botswana, thanks to an 89th-minute goal from Chiwendu Ihezuo. However, the team’s problems in front of goal were exposed in their final group game against Algeria, where they had 24 shots but failed to score.
After the goalless draw against Algeria, Coach Madugu apologised for what he described as a poor performance and assured fans that the team is working hard to solve the issue before facing Zambia.
“Before this tournament, we were scoring goals in many of our matches,” the 61-year-old said in an interview with Biola Solace-Chukwu.
“But here at WAFCON, scoring has become a problem. We need to start again and put in more effort.”
He added, “We don’t have much time to fix it, but it’s something that is now a serious concern for us. The same players who were scoring before are the ones playing now, so we must figure out what has changed and correct it.”
Nigeria will face Zambia in three days at the Stade Larbi Zouli in Casablanca, Morocco. Kick-off is scheduled for 5:00pm West Africa Time.
