Cody Gakpo in line for Liverpool debut v Brentford as PSV confirm transfer
Netherlands and PSV star player Cody Gakpo will become a new Liverpool player after the English club and Dutch club reached an agreement on his transfer.
PSV confirmed the transfer via a statement on their official website: “PSV and LFC [Liverpool] have reached an agreement on the proposed transfer of Cody Gakpo.
“The 23-year-old attacker will leave for England imminently where he will be subjected to the necessary formalities ahead of the completion of the transfer.
“Both clubs are not making any announcements about the transfer fee. ‘But this is a record transfer for PSV,’ said general manager Marcel Brands.”
According to transfer expert Fabricio Romano, Liverpool will pay PSV £37m guaranteed fee plus £13m in add-ons.
Gakpo was Netherlands’ best player at the 2022 FIFA World Cup where they were eliminated via penalty shootout by the winners, Argentina.
Cody Gakpo will join the likes of Darwin Nunez, Mo Salah, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, and Roberto Firmino in Liverpool’s attack.
Should the deal be completed, Gakpo could be in line for a Liverpool debut on January 2 when they visit Brentford.
