Confirmed: Bukayo Saka faces extended time out after hamstring surgery
Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka is set to miss over two months of action after undergoing surgery to repair a torn hamstring, Mikel Arteta confirms.
Manager Mikel Arteta revealed the 23-year-old’s injury update following Arsenal’s win over Ipswich on Friday. The news is a major blow to the Gunners’ Premier League hopes, with Saka being a key player in their squad.
“He had a procedure, and everything went well, but he’ll be out for many weeks,” Arteta explained. “I believe it will be more than two months, but we’ll have to see how the healing progresses in the coming weeks. It’s difficult to predict the exact timeframe.”
Saka sustained the injury during Arsenal’s Premier League win over Crystal Palace last Saturday. This is not the first time the forward has struggled with hamstring problems this season, adding to concerns about his fitness.
Saka’s absence means he will miss several important fixtures, including Premier League clashes against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, the FA Cup third-round tie against Manchester United, and Arsenal’s remaining Champions League group stage matches. He could also be unavailable for the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Newcastle United and potentially the Champions League knockout phase play-offs.
Arsenal’s next league match is a London derby against Brentford on New Year’s Day. With Saka sidelined, the Gunners will need other players to step up as they navigate a challenging run of fixtures.
