Conte starts and ends Juventus dominance as Inter Milan are confirmed champions of Italy

Atalanta fail to beat Sassuolo to hand Inter Milan the title with four games to spare

Inter Milan have been confirmed as the winners of the 2020/21 Scudetto after Atalanta were held to a 1-1 draw by Sassuolo in their Italian Serie A encounter on Sunday.

Atalanta goalkeeper, Pierluigi Gollini was sent off in the 22nd minute before Robin Gosens opened the scoring for Atalanta with an acrobatic effort from a tight angle in the 32nd minute of the encounter before Sassuolo pulled one back from the spot through captain Domenico Berardi 7 minutes after the interval. Atalanta striker, Luis Muriel was upended in the box following a last man intervention from Sassuolo defender Marlon, before his resulting spot kick was saved by Sassuolo goalkeeper, Andrea Consigli. Marlon was sent off as both teams finished the game with 10 men apiece.

The result confirmed Inter Milan as champions of Serie A for the first time in 11 years as manager Antonio Conte successfully dethroned Juventus after 9 successive league triumphs. Conte incidentally led Juventus to the first four of their 9 successive league triumphs. Inter Milan have a 13 point gap over second placed Atalanta with only four games left to play in the Serie A season.
