Copa América returns to Its Four-Year Cycle in 2028
The Copa América is going back to a four-year cycle, meaning the next edition will be in 2028.
The tournament has been on a less predictable schedule in recent years. After the 2016 Copa América Centenario, the competition was played in 2019. Then, with the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 edition was played in 2021. Argentina then won the 2024 tournament in the United States.
Now, the Copa América will settle back into the familiar four-year rhythm.
The return to a regular cycle should make the competition easier for fans and national teams to plan for and give South America’s biggest international tournament a more familiar place on the football calendar.
