Court Orders PSG to Pay Kylian Mbappe €60 million

Paris Saint-Germain have been ordered by a court to pay €60 million to Kylian Mbappé after losing a legal case over unpaid wages.

The case followed a long dispute after the French forward left PSG to join Real Madrid on a free transfer last summer. The court ruled that PSG failed to pay Mbappé three months of his salary, as well as his ethics and signing bonuses.

Mbappé had originally demanded €240 million, which included damages and unpaid wages. PSG, on the other hand, asked for compensation over the player’s failed move to Saudi club Al-Hilal, which was valued at around €300 million.

After the ruling, Mbappé’s legal team said they were satisfied with the decision, adding that contracts and salaries must be respected in football, just like in any other profession. They also said Mbappé honoured all his duties to the club during his seven years at PSG.

The dispute lasted for more than two years. During that period, Mbappé was left out of the PSG squad after he decided not to move to Saudi Arabia. He was later brought back, with PSG claiming he had agreed to give up part of his end-of-contract payments. Mbappé’s representatives strongly denied this.

PSG also accused Mbappé of acting unfairly by not informing the club earlier about his decision not to extend his contract. They claimed this caused them financial losses.

Cases like this are rare but not new in football. Other players in the past have also taken clubs to court over unpaid wages and won their cases.
