Cristiano Ronaldo Reacts to Rasmus Hojlund’s ‘Siu’ Celebration

Cristiano Ronaldo has responded to Rasmus Hojlund copying his famous “Siu” celebration during their UEFA Nations League match. The Portuguese star said it was an honour to see the young Denmark striker do it.

“For me, it was not a problem,” Ronaldo said on Saturday, ahead of the second leg of their quarter-final. “I knew it was not out of disrespect.”

The 40-year-old striker explained that many people around the world, even in other sports, do his celebration. “For me, it is an honour,” Ronaldo told reporters. “But on Sunday, I hope he can see me do my celebration! If I score, it’s good for me, but if I don’t and someone else does, that’s fine too.”

Hojlund scored the winning goal for Denmark in the first leg last Thursday. After his goal, he jumped in the air and did his version of Ronaldo’s “Siu” celebration. However, the Manchester United forward said he was not making fun of his idol.

“I’m playing against the world’s best footballer, my idol,” Hojlund told Denmark’s TV2. “To score the winning goal was a dream come true. It was not to mock him. I’ve always said he has had a big influence on me and my football career.”

Hojlund’s 78th-minute strike gave Denmark a 1-0 win over Portugal in the first leg, while Ronaldo had a frustrating night at the other end of the pitch. Both teams are now preparing for the second leg of the quarter-final.
