Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi Could Face FA Charge Over Captain’s Armband Message
Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi may face disciplinary action from the Football Association (FA) after his actions during his team’s 1-1 draw against Newcastle last weekend.
Premier League captains were required to wear rainbow-coloured armbands as part of an initiative promoting LGBTQ+ inclusivity. Guehi, serving as Crystal Palace captain, complied by wearing the armband but added a personal message, writing “I love Jesus” on it.
The rainbow campaign, launched in 2013, encourages support for the LGBTQ+ community, with clubs displaying rainbow corner flags and players wearing rainbow-themed armbands and laces.
Guehi’s gesture, while subtle, has drawn attention, and the FA could consider it a breach of regulations surrounding the campaign.
Both Guehi and Newcastle’s captain, Bruno Guimarães, wore the rainbow armbands during the match, which ended in a draw. The FA has not yet announced whether any formal action will be taken against the 24-year-old defender
