His performance during the regular season was given as the reason he could only occupy the 5th spot for the second season in a row.

But Giannis Antetokounmpo who was ranked as the number one player said Stephen Curry earned the right to be the number one guy.

“Do I believe that I’m one of the best players in the league, the way I help my team be great and win games, it’s efficient and effective? Yeah, I do believe [that],” Giannis said.

“Do I believe I’m the best player in the world? No. I think the best player in the world is the person who is the last one standing…

“Two years ago when we did that, when I was sleeping in my bed, I was like, ‘Yeah, maybe I am the best player in the world.’ You know?

“But now, no… I believe the best player in the world is Steph Curry.”

On the same day, Stephen Curry who was unaware of the compliment from Giannis Antetokounmpo was asked by a journalist what he thought about it.

“Thanks for telling me that,” Curry said to reporters with a smile. “Thank you, Giannis.”

“So, I appreciate the compliment,” Curry said.

“It’s not going to soften me up to get complacent at all.

“But you do appreciate the respect of your peers to say stuff like that, and I’ve been in the situation where I’m complimenting guys around the league a lot as well.”
