Cyriel Dessers ends goal drought as Rangers defeat Motherwell 2-1 to reach League Cup final

Super Eagles forward Cyriel Dessers ended his eight-game goal drought in style as Rangers secured a 2-1 victory over Motherwell, advancing to the League Cup final.

The match opened with early action as Dessers nearly found the back of the net in the 12th minute. Following a swift counterattack set up by Jefte, Dessers’ shot came agonizingly close, missing by mere inches.

Motherwell seized the advantage in the 25th minute when Andy Halliday connected with Steve Seddon’s layoff, slotting the ball past Rangers’ defense to open the scoring. Despite Rangers’ efforts to equalize, including another close attempt from Dessers in the 44th minute, they went into halftime trailing 1-0.

Rangers returned for the second half with renewed energy, and Dessers finally ended his scoring drought just four minutes after the restart. In the 49th minute, he latched onto a perfectly timed pass from Barron and calmly slotted the ball home, leveling the score and energizing the home crowd.

Dessers’ impactful performance ended when he was substituted in the 67th minute for Danilo. With the score level and tensions high, Nedim Bajrami delivered the decisive moment in the 81st minute. Latching onto a pass from Václav Černý, Bajrami fired a powerful shot into the top of the net, securing Rangers’ place in the League Cup final.

This crucial goal brings Dessers’ season tally to eight goals and three assists in 18 appearances across all competitions, marking a strong comeback for the Nigerian forward as he looks to continue his form in the upcoming fixtures.
