Cyriel Dessers joins Cremonese from KRC Genk for $7m

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has joined Italian Serie A newcomers Cremonese on a permanent deal from KRC Genk.

The 27-year-old striker who was the top scorer at the first ever UEFA Conference League switched from Belgium to Italy in a deal said to be around $7m.

Cyriel Dessers made a huge name for himself in the Dutch league at Heracles where he finished as the Eredivisie top scorer in the 2020 season.

His remarkable performance earned him a move back to his boyhood club KRC Genk in Belgium but the move didn’t go as planned.

Cyriel Dessers played a bit of a part role at Genk in the 2021 season before deciding to move to Dutch club Feyenoord the following season.

His move to the Dutch club didn’t start as he planned but once he was unleashed – he became the talking point across Europe.

It was Jose Mourinho’s Roma who stopped Cyriel Dessers from winning the maiden Europa Conference League title with Feyenoord last season.

Cyriel returned to KRC Genk for the 2022/23 season where he has three goals in three Belgium Pro League games but then decided to move on.

According to the statement from both clubs – the move is permanent.

Cyriel Dessers has played three games for the Super Eagles of Nigeria scoring just once.
