Cyriel Dessers on target for Rangers in narrow home win
Cyriel Dessers scored his first league goal for Rangers as they claimed a narrow 1-0 win over Motherwell in their SPFL meeting at Ibrox.
Rangers were looking to improve after losing two of their first five games this season, including one to Celtic. They secured a morale-boosting win over Real Betis in the UEFA Europa League in midweek.
The Gers controlled the match, and needed just 24 minutes to open the scoring in front of their fans. Dessers was the luckiest man in the stadium but won’t care a bit as a shot from Rabbi Matondo deflected off his foot into the back of the net. It was the former Genk man’s third goal of the season since joining the Light Blues this summer.
Rangers held on to pick up a win which moves them up to 12 points for the season and up to third place in the league behind Celtic and St. Mirren. They will return to action in the Scottish League Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday when Livingston pay them a visit.
