Dakkada FC Cruise Past Igbajo FC 3-1 in Uyo
Dakkada FC resumed their Nigeria National League (NNL) campaign with a dominant 3-1 victory over Igbajo FC at the Uyo Township Stadium on Friday, January 24, 2025.
The match kicked off in dramatic fashion, as David Bassey scored the fastest goal of the season just ten seconds into the game. The lanky forward capitalised on a defensive mix-up at the edge of the Igbajo FC penalty area, firing past a helpless goalkeeper to give Dakkada FC the early lead.
However, Igbajo FC equalised midway through the first half, and the teams went into the break level at 1-1.
Dakkada FC regained the lead in the second half through a calmly converted penalty by Erikan Francis. Kingsley Akpan then sealed the win with a tap-in in the final moments of the match, making it 3-1.
The Uyo-based club had been on a bye during the previous round of NNL fixtures, but they used the break wisely, playing a friendly match against Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Abia Warriors FC on Sunday, January 19, 2025. The friendly ended in a 1-1 draw, with Dakkada FC putting in a commendable performance against the top-flight team, despite not securing a victory.
The spirited showing in the friendly match boosted Dakkada FC’s confidence ahead of their crucial league encounter with Igbajo FC.
Dakkada FC’s fans were notified of the adjusted schedule for the NNL week seven match, which was moved to Friday instead of the usual Saturday home slot. Fans turned out in large numbers to support their team, as they aimed to return to winning ways in the league.
The Uyo Township Stadium will also host another NNL week seven match on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 3:00 pm, when Godswill Akpabio United FC face Osun United FC.
