Daniel Akpeyi opens up on mentally challenging new career phase

Nigerian goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has opened up on how he is coping with the mentally challenging phase of being without a club for the first time since 2005 .

Akpeyi was released by South African Premier Soccer League side Kaizer Chiefs at the expiration of his contract at the end of last season.

Akpeyi has remained in South Africa where he holds a residence permit but is yet to find a new club with few weeks to the resumption of the South African Premier Soccer League .

Akpeyi said ” Being without a club is new for me since 2005 so i must just be mentally strong. I give glory to God that he has been granting me strength to be able to go through this period,”

” In the past, I wouldn’t be in all of the pre-season training because of national team commitments but the situation is different now since I’m not with a club, ”

” I just have to be mentally strong through this phase and understand that it is all part of the game. I believe that the right team will come,” Akpeyi Stated.

The 19 cap Nigerian International has been linked with South African clubs Sekhukhune United and AmaZulu with unconfirmed links to Orlando Pirates .

Akpeyi Continued ” For now, I’m just preparing myself by going through my own pre-season while waiting for the right time to sign.”

” In preparing myself I’m keeping fit by training with one of the top goalkeeper trainers.It is a matter of accepting the right offer from what I have available from both South Africa and outside. ” The 35 year old shot stopper concluded.
