Daniel Ogunmodede confident NPFL stars can manage Nigeria/Ghana rivalry expectations
Ghana’s Black Galaxies will face Nigeria on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium in the first leg of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.
Super Eagles assistant coach Daniel Ogunmodede has said that the Nigerian team is highly motivated and ready to defeat their rivals, Ghana, in this important match.
The match is especially significant as Ghana stopped Nigeria from qualifying for the last edition of the competition.
Ogunmodede spoke about the pressure of the game, saying, “Managing the pressure and expectations for such an important match against our big rivals is very important,” according to CAFonline. He also shared how the team plans to handle the pressure: “We focus on staying mentally strong, sticking to our game plan, and helping the players feel confident to play their best. We want them to see the rivalry as motivation, not something to worry about.”
The coach also highlighted the importance of qualifying for the CHAN tournament. “It would be a big achievement. It would help show off our local talent, improve the profile of the Nigerian domestic league, and inspire future football stars,” he said.
After the first leg in Accra, Nigeria will host Ghana in the return leg at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
