Davis helps Pelicans beat Cavs, Hawk beat Lakers

LeBron James almost carried the Cleveland Cavaliers to a comeback win before they went down to the New Orleans Pelicans 114-108 after overtime.

James had 24 fourth-quarter points as the Cavs rallied from 13 points down at the Smoothie King Center on Friday.

The four-time MVP finished with 37 points, but the Pelicans forced OT after Jrue Holiday hit a three-pointer with eight seconds to go.

James and Richard Jefferson missed potentially game-winning shots and Anthony Davis had six points in OT as the Pelicans ended a four-game losing streak.

Davis, who briefly exited the game with an injury scare, had 31 points and 12 rebounds.

The Washington Wizards came from behind to claim a 109-106 win over the Phoenix Suns at Verizon Center.

Bradley Beal had 34 points, nine rebounds and five assists, while John Wall finished with 17 points and nine assists.

The Wizards had trailed by 10 points early in the fourth quarter before fighting back

James Harden overcame a slow start to score 25 points in the Houston Rockets’ 100-96 win against the Dallas Mavericks.

Dirk Nowitzki had a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Mavs.

The New York Knicks set up their 108-91 thrashing of the Brooklyn Nets with a 42-point first quarter.

Carmelo Anthony (28 points) led the Knicks as they improved to 10-10.

Kobe Bryant went four-of-19 from the field as his Los Angeles Lakers slumped to a 100-87 loss at the Atlanta Hawks.

Andre Drummond had yet another double-double, with his 17 points and 23 rebounds seeing the Detroit Pistons past the Milwaukee Bucks 102-95.
